Michael F. Margareci of Saugus died peacefully at home on October 31, 2026, surrounded by his family.
He was raised in East Boston by his father, Placido, and by his Aunt Mega and Uncle Joe after his mother, Concetta, died when he was six months old. He graduated from East Boston High School and served in the United States Army. While he was in the service he met his grandparents and the rest of his family in Italy for the first time, and he stayed in touch with them for the rest of his life.
In 1953 he married Josephine Palermo, known to everyone as Tootsie, and they were married 68 years. They raised their family in East Boston and later moved to Saugus. He worked at Vlier Engineering for 35 years. He went back to Italy whenever he could, traveled widely with family and friends, followed Boston sports and kept a retreat at Loon Mountain. The hours he liked best were Sunday dinners and holidays with him at the head of a table that held three generations.
He leaves his daughter, Paula Margareci of Saugus; his son, Michael Margareci, and his wife, Susan, of Sandown, New Hampshire; his grandchildren, Michael and his wife, Andrea, Nicholas and his fiancée, Angela, Haley and her husband, Joseph Falone, and Joseph and his girlfriend, Mariah; his great-grandchildren, Elora and Andrew Margareci and Giovanni Falone; and his lifelong friend, Joseph “Jocko” Todesca. His wife; his brother, Anthony Margareci, and Anthony’s wife, Geraldine, died before him.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Church in Saugus, followed by entombment beside his wife at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. Memorial donations may be made to New England Disabled Sports, P.O. Box 26, Lincoln, NH 03251. Arrangements are by the Ruggiero Family Memorial Home, North Shore Chapel, Peabody.
