Sheila F. (Callahan) Camic of Wilmington, formerly of Chelsea, died peacefully at home on October 31, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was 83.

She was born in Stoneham on May 9, 1943, the daughter of Francis J. Callahan and Theresa (Ahern) Callahan, and was raised and educated there. After her marriage she moved to Chelsea, where she raised her two daughters, Miccal and Colleen, by herself, working hard to provide for them and staying involved in everything they did.

She worked as a certified nursing assistant for All Care Visiting Nurses and the Aberjona Nursing Center and cared privately for several patients, treating each one, her family says, the way she would treat her own.

In 1995, soon after her first grandchild was born, she moved the family to Wilmington, where she quickly made friends among her neighbors. Being a grandmother was the role she loved most. Known as “Niny,” she was at the football and baseball games, the cheerleading competitions no matter the distance, and the school events, and she was the one her grandchildren could count on to listen, crack a joke and keep a confidence.

She played bingo with her sister Beverly, went to Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun with her sister Brenda, her brother Billy and sister-in-law Cathy, and traveled to Florida with Brenda and brother-in-law Doug. The family traditions she kept were trips to Revere Beach, Kelly’s Roast Beef, ice cream runs with the kids, picnics and “glamping.” She was witty and feisty, usually the loudest person in the room, with a laugh that filled a house and a loyalty to her people that never wavered.

She leaves her daughters, Miccal Camic and her husband, Luis Rivera, and Colleen Camic and Randy McCusker, all of Wilmington; her grandchildren, Hannah McCusker, Paige Rivera and Ayden Rivera; her sister, Brenda Andersen of Wilmington; her brother, Billy Callahan, and his wife, Cathy, of Mystic, Connecticut; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Her grandson Austin Camic, her sister Beverly Williams and Beverly’s husband, Wes, and her brother-in-law Doug Andersen died before her.

Visiting hours will be held Saturday, November 7, 2026 from noon to 2 p.m. at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Avenue, Route 62, Wilmington, followed at 2 p.m. by a service celebrating her life.
