Christine Ellen (Lynch) O’Donnell of Wilmington died peacefully on November 4, 2026, with her family around her. She was 84.

She was born in Lynn on June 29, 1942, the daughter of William and Jennie (Bettinger) Lynch, and was raised and educated there. She earned a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education from Salem State College and a master’s in computers in education from Lesley University.

She married Jim O’Donnell on July 17, 1965, and the couple settled in Wilmington and raised three children, Bill, Dan and Jen. She taught in the Wilmington schools for more than three decades, first as the town’s permanent substitute and then as a second grade teacher at the Wildwood School, and retired in 2005. Her family says she loved the children, prized the friendships she made with other teachers and took real pride in watching her students learn.

Away from school she loved music, dancing and travel. She and Jim were the couple on the dance floor at weddings and family parties, and she cruised the Caribbean whenever she could. Family came first: she built the traditions that brought everyone together and delighted in being Nana to her grandchildren.

For the last ten years she lived with Alzheimer’s disease. Her husband cared for her at home through all of it, until her final breath.

She leaves her husband, Jim; her son Bill O’Donnell and his wife, Christina, of Mooresville, North Carolina, and their children, Allison, Lindsey, Joseph, Dominic and Sofia; her son Dan O’Donnell of Hyannis; her daughter, Jen Huyck, and her husband, Tony, of Salem, New Hampshire, and their children, Christopher, Lauren, Rebecca and Matthew; her sister, Charlene O’Connor, and her husband, Kevin, of The Villages, Florida; her brother-in-law Brian O’Donnell and his wife, Janice, of Dunstable; her sister-in-law Mary Maio and her husband, Andrew, of Littleton, Colorado; and many nieces and nephews. Her close friends Katherine Barry and Janice Mederios died before her.

Visitation will be held Monday, November 9, 2026 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Avenue, Route 62, Wilmington. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home Tuesday, November 10 at 11:30 a.m., followed by interment at Wildwood Cemetery in Wilmington. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011, or to the Aleppo Shriners Hospital Transportation Fund, 99 Fordham Road, Wilmington.
