Deanna Marie DeMayo of Malden died on October 27, 2026, two years after she was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. She was 46, born September 22, 1980.
She was born and raised in Edgeworth and considered the neighborhood part of who she was. She carried it, along with her Italian heritage, wherever she went, and in later years she lived in Maplewood with her son, Danny.
Her family describes a woman who filled a room: she loved to cook, loved company and loved life, with a spirit that could not be tamed and a fierce loyalty to the people she cared about. Around the city she was known as “The Mayor of Malden.” She knew people, people knew her, and she made sure her presence was felt.
Her son came before everything. Her family calls him her greatest accomplishment and the source of her greatest happiness, and says he will carry a piece of her with him always. They ask that she be remembered not for the illness she fought but for the life she lived, the people she loved and the laughter she left behind.
She leaves her son, Daniel “Danny” Carney; her sister, Danielle DeMayo; her godmother, Joanne D’Orlando; and many extended family members and friends. Her daughter, Ava Carney; her mother, Donna Dorazio-Semon; and her father, Donald “Beaver” DeMayo, died before her.
A memorial service will be held Monday, November 9, 2026 at 1:45 p.m. at the Forest Street entrance of Forest Dale Cemetery in Malden. Relatives and friends are invited. Arrangements are by Boston Cremation, Malden Care Center.
