Melrose

Agnes M. Fiascone of Peabody, Longtime Melrose Resident, Mother of Five, Knitter, Meals on Wheels and Hospice Volunteer

Her kitchen needlepoint read "To whom much has been given, much shall be expected," and she lived it: five children, a table always full, afghans and mittens for three generations, and years of visiting nursing home residents who had no one else. Visitation is Friday, November 6 at Gately Funeral Home.

Agnes M. (Murphy) Fiascone of Peabody, who lived in Melrose for many years, died on Thursday, October 29, 2026.

She was the wife of the late Arnold Fiascone and the mother of five. Her family remembers a devoted wife and mother who was also a superb cook, baker and hostess: holidays and special occasions meant outstanding meals and good company, and so, they add, did most ordinary days. Her Irish wit was sharpest at a long table of family and friends, and she kept everyone laughing.

She knitted all her life, and her family and lucky friends have the sweaters, hats, mittens, afghans and blankets to show for it. Pieces she made for her grandchildren are now being worn by her great-grandchildren.

She gave time to her community for years as a Meals on Wheels volunteer, a hospice respite-care volunteer and a visitor to nursing home residents who had no regular visitors. A needlepoint she made and hung in her kitchen summed up her outlook: “To whom much has been given, much shall be expected.”

She leaves her children, John Fiascone and his wife, Lisa; Stephen Fiascone and his wife, Julie; Marie Gerardo and her husband, Ed; Eileen Sunseri and her husband, Steve; and Jim Fiascone and his wife, Kelly; 12 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren, with a seventh on the way.

Visitation will be held Friday, November 6, 2026 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the Gately Funeral Home, 79 West Foster Street, Melrose, 781-665-1949, followed by a funeral Mass at 11 a.m. at Incarnation Parish, 429 Upham Street, Melrose. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, The Home for Little Wanderers, or a charity of one’s choice.
