Beverly Anderson Nicolas, who lived in the Winthrop Highlands for more than 65 years before moving to Braintree, died with her family beside her on October 29, 2026. She was 100.
She was born in Lowell in July 1926, the daughter of Hilding R. Anderson and Doris V. (Aitken) Anderson, and graduated from Revere High School in 1944. In 1948 she married Edward S. Nicolas of Winthrop, and the Highlands became home for the rest of her working life. She loved long walks along Shore Drive and on “Rocky” Beach.
In the 1980s she went to work as a library assistant at Harbridge House, a consulting firm in Boston, and made a daily habit of walking through the Public Garden.
She traveled when she could, especially to Las Vegas with her mother and her sister Margie to visit her son, Dan, and his wife. She took bus trips to New York with her daughter, Kathy, to see the Rockettes, and once treated the whole family to an Alaska cruise.
She leaves her sister, Marjorie J. Anderson of Braintree; her son, Daniel “Nick” Nicolas, and his wife, Cheryl, of Mesquite, Nevada; her daughter, Kathleen “Nicki” Shaban, and her husband, Brian, of Braintree; her grandson, Tyler J. Shaban, and his wife, Ariana, of Whitinsville; and her granddaughter, Kristen B. Shaban of Medford. Her husband, Edward “Nick” Nicolas, and her sister, Shirley E. Murray of Revere, died before her.
At her request there will be no funeral service. Donations may be made to the Friends of Thayer Public Library, 798 Washington Street, Braintree, MA 02184, or to the Friends of the Winthrop Council on Aging, 35 Harvard Street, Winthrop, MA 02152.
