Mary T. Zappulla died peacefully on Friday, October 30, 2026. She was 94.
She grew up in Somerville and graduated from Somerville High School, then went to work at WBZ Radio, where she spent her career as administrative assistant to the station’s general manager. She was devoted to her parents, Joseph and Lucy (DeSimone) Zappulla, both of whom died before her.
Her pleasures were shopping, travel and a good dinner out with family and friends, with an occasional trip to the casino. She stayed fit in the walking club at Somerville Recreation and with tai chi. The house on Evergreen Avenue in Somerville was a point of pride, and she worked to keep it welcoming and in good order.
She leaves many cousins in the Zappulla, DeSimone, Antonelli and Barton families, and many friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to St. Raphael Church, 512 High Street, Medford, on Saturday, November 7 from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. and burial at Puritan Lawn Memorial Park in Peabody. In place of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to the Alzheimer’s Association. Arrangements are by the Dello Russo Funeral Home, Medford.
