Palmina DeGuglielmo of Somerville, known as Ida, died on Saturday, October 24, 2026. She was 101.
She was born and raised in Tufo, a hill town in the province of Avellino in southern Italy, the daughter of Carmine and Carolina (Zuzolo) Minichiello. She came to the United States in 1970, lived first in Cambridge and in 1972 moved to Somerville, to the house she would keep for the rest of her life. Cooking for her family was her pleasure, and her family remembers a generous, thoughtful woman who was kind and giving to the end.
She was the wife of the late Antonio DeGuglielmo. She leaves her children Enrico DeGuglielmo, his former wife Rosa and his partner Joyce; Carmine DeGuglielmo and his wife Linda; and Carolina Fazio and her husband Umberto; 11 grandchildren, Ida Martell, Michelle Picardi, Antonio DeGuglielmo, Alfonso DeGuglielmo, Salvatore Fazio, Daniela Cicolini, Alessandra Bousios, Giuliana Vietro, Anthony DeGuglielmo, Steven DeGuglielmo and Frederika MacMillan; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours were held at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main Street, Medford, on October 28 and 29, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Ann Church, 399 Medford Street, Somerville, and entombment at Holy Cross Cemetery in Malden. In place of flowers, contributions in her name may be sent to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memorials Processing, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959.
