Maria E. (Gidare) Aloise, who lived in Malden, Reading and Lynnfield before moving to Tewksbury, died peacefully on Monday, November 4, 2026 at Bayberry at Emerald Court assisted living. She was born November 16, 1933 and was 92.
She was born and raised in Boston’s North End, the daughter of Alfredo and Giovanna (Pagniotta) Gidare. Music was her profession. She sang for dignitaries over the course of her career, sang at weddings beyond counting, and once sang at Mass at the Vatican in Rome, an honor her family still speaks of. Closer to home she directed the choirs at St. Joseph’s in Malden, Our Lady of Grace in Everett and St. Adelaide’s in West Peabody.
For more than 35 years she also worked for the Malden Public Schools as secretary to the director of special education, and in 2002 the Malden Chamber of Commerce and the city named her Secretary of the Year. She was married 39 years to Alfred E. Aloise Sr., who died in 1993 at 63.
She leaves her daughters Elaina Aloise of Waterbury, Vermont, and Laura (Aloise) Wilson of Tewksbury, formerly of Reading, and Laura’s companion Richard Tortola of Billerica; her son Alfred Aloise Jr. and his wife Michelle of Swampscott; her grandchildren Robert J. Wilson III and his wife Amanda of Saugus, Arthur E. Wessels III of Hardwick, Vermont, Andrew Wilson of Staten Island, New York, Alfred Aloise III of Swampscott and Jonathan Aloise of Peabody; and many nieces and nephews. Her siblings Orlando Gidare, Leo Gidare and Teresa Aloise, her sons-in-law Monty Wilson and Arthur E. Wessels Jr., and her nephews Dominic Aloisi, Robert Aloisi and Dominic M. Aloise Jr. died before her. Her family thanks the staff at Bayberry at Emerald Court and her nurse practitioner, Hanna Ramos.
