Carmela “Carmie” Mirandi of Beverly, who was born in Salem in 1924 and lived 77 years on Goat Hill, died on October 21, 2026. She was 102.

She was born on June 20, 1924, the middle child of Peter A. and Josephine (Cannizzaro) Giuggio, and grew up in the Italian neighborhood behind the Italian church in Salem. She graduated from Salem High School in 1941 and the Hawthorne Institute secretarial school in 1942, worked for a Beverly lawyer, then took a switchboard job at Metal Hydrides at the foot of Goat Hill and rose to secretary as the company became Ventron and then Morton Thiokol in Danvers. Her colleagues honored her at the Danversport Yacht Club when she retired in 1991.

During the war she and her friends took the train to the USO dances in Boston. Afterward she met Mike Mirandi; they were married 50 years, raised five children on Goat Hill, and in their seventies traveled to Navy battleship reunions, cruised and wintered in Florida until his illness in 1999. She lived alone at 22 Porter Street for the 27 years after. She golfed at Wenham, danced in a seniors’ troupe, knitted with the ladies at the Beverly Senior Center and was part of the Fourth of July life at Gillis Park and the Goat Hill Athletic Club.

She leaves her children, Peter, Susan, Tom, Steven and David, and their spouses Karen, Laura, Marie and Oscar; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Joann Giunta and her husband Joseph of Nahant. Her sisters Katherine Morrocco and Marie Hodge and her brother Ralph Giuggio died before her.
