Lorraine DeAmato died peacefully on October 14, 2026 after a brief battle with lung cancer. She was 74.

She was born in Boston on December 28, 1951, the daughter of Ralph and Elena (Perracchi) DeAmato, and spent much of her career teaching science at St. Mary’s in Lynn. When she retired she went back to her childhood home in Somerville to be near her family. She painted, made diamond dot art, sang along to Broadway, never missed a Celtics or Patriots game, made what she called her weekly deposit at Twin River in Rhode Island, and was a faithful parishioner of St. John’s Church in Cambridge.

She leaves her family in Somerville and beyond, including Maria Estey of Somerville, many nieces and nephews, her “dog nephew,” Gus, and a wide circle of friends.

Calling hours are Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the George L. Doherty Funeral Home, 855 Broadway, Powder House Square, Somerville. The funeral procession leaves Thursday, October 22 at 10 a.m. for an 11 a.m. Mass at St. John the Evangelist Church, Cambridge. Burial is private. The family suggests donations to the Cancer Center at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, with “Inpatient HemOnc Fund” in the memo.
