Harry George Cakounes, who ran Noah’s Motors on Route 1 North in Saugus and was known to much of the town simply as Noah, died on September 15, 2026 with his wife, children and closest friends around him. He was 78.
He was born on March 15, 1948, the eldest son of George and Evangeline Cakounes, and lived in Saugus all his life. After Saugus High School he earned a drafting degree at Wentworth, then served in the Army in Germany during the Vietnam era as a Specialist E-5 with an expert rating on the M-14. He came home and opened Noah’s Motors. His family lists what he was there: mechanic, motorcycle builder, gunsmith, military memorabilia expert, artist, draftsman, builder and, in their words, mad scientist, a man who could assemble a Harley-Davidson from parts and make things run that had no business running. Customers found him from across the country, and waited, sometimes years, for him to finish.
He met Karen in 1975 and married her in 1978; they passed 50 years together this year. He leaves her; their daughters, Crystal, Ashley and Katie; Ed Smith, who came to work at the shop in high school and became the son he always wanted; his grandchildren, Brackett, Noah, Luke and Emma, who called him Papou; and the veterans, mechanics, collectors and Saugus neighbors who knew him as Noah.
