Edward E. Asaley of Cambridge and Boynton Beach, Fla. died peacefully on October 1, 2026. He was 93.

He grew up in Cambridge, the son of Samuel and Rose (Zahlaway) Asaley, and starred in three sports in high school before playing baseball at Boston University, where, his family says, he nearly went pro. He taught in the Newton schools, coached and umpired, and somewhere along the way found golf, which took over: Oakley Country Club became his second home, and he divided his time between Cambridge, Florida and whichever had the better weather for a round.

His wife, Judy (Vignoni) Asaley, died before him, as did his sisters Margaret Dayie and Mary Tahhan. He leaves his children, Gail Margo of Biddeford, Maine, Edward M. Asaley and his wife Debbie of Newton, Lori Asaley Dupont of Scituate, whose husband Alfred died before him, and Nancy Cronin and her husband Stephen of Scituate; and his grandchildren, Eddie, Michael, Lisa, Katie, Sara, Gina, Brett, Cayla, Sean and Sarah.

A funeral Mass is Monday, November 9 at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Watertown. Burial is private. Arrangements are by the DeVito Funeral Home. The family suggests donations to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
