Paul Thomas Iarrobino, a Swampscott native who built a career in defense policy in Washington, died suddenly at his home in Arlington, Va.

He was born and raised in Swampscott, served as president of the Swampscott High School Class of 1990 and graduated from Georgetown University in 1994. He started at a Washington think tank, then joined the office of U.S. Senator Jon Kyl as a legislative assistant on defense, foreign policy, telecommunications and transportation. He worked in government relations, joined Boeing’s Ballistic Missile Systems group, served in the Office of the Secretary of Defense as deputy director of missile defense policy and later worked for Raytheon in public affairs. His family remembers a brilliant mind, a generous heart and an unforgettable sense of humor, a man who could move at the highest levels of government and business and was, to them, simply Paul.

He leaves his parents, Thomas and Ruth Iarrobino; his sister, Beth Faia, her husband Steve and their sons Justin and Eric; his sister, Anne Quagrello, her husband Pat and their daughters Paige, Victoria and Olivia; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

A memorial Mass is Friday, October 23 at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, 178 Humphrey Street, Swampscott, with visiting hours in the church from 9 to 11. Burial at Swampscott Cemetery is private. Arrangements are by the Solimine Funeral Home, Lynn. The family suggests donations to the Swampscott Education Foundation, 450B Paradise Road, #417, Swampscott, MA 01907.
